EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE

Here is some useful information to learn more about "energy therapy" and its benefits:

The most basic cause of psychological reversal (PR) is negative thinking.  As a general rule, the more pervasive this type of thinking, the more prone we are to becoming psychologically reversed.    It is important to understand that PR is not a character defect – it is a chronic reversal of the electrical polarity of the body.  The energy system literally works against you.  The person who can’t stop smoking isn’t weak, he is psychologically reversed.  By massaging or tapping on certain points on the body, EFT can correct psychological reversal, and allow for true progress to be made.

  This is another interesting aspect of EFT, and one of Dr. Callahan’s most fascinating discoveries.  He had found that for some people, and indeed for all of us in some situations, the flow of energy changes polarity and is actually operating in reverse, a phenomenon that Dr. Callahan has termed “psychological reversal”.    It is as though a battery had been put in backwards.  And it seems that psychological reversal (PR) is more than often the culprit behind powerful addictions, chronic depression, lingering illnesses, degenerative diseases, slow healing, failed weight loss, and poor sports and business performance.  It is the reason why we sometimes seem to be our own worst enemy; unable to reach those “new levels” we truly want.  It is why people fall short in countless pursuits even though they know they have the ability to achieve them.  It is a contributor to psychological blocks (e.g. “writers block”) and learning limitations (like dyslexia).  Where PR is present, little or no headway will be made.  It literally blocks progress.

  The Chinese discovered approximately 5000 years ago that a system of energy circuits runs throughout the body, and these circuits - or meridians – form the basis of modern day acupuncture.  What runs throughout them is the "life-force", the bio-energy that keeps the body alive and maintains a state of good health. The Chinese call it Chi, the Japanese Ki, to the Greeks it is Pneuma, to the Polynesians Mana, and in Hebrew - Ruah - meaning "Breath of Life".  And while this energy is invisible to the eye, it nonetheless is there.  You cannot see the energy flowing through your television set, yet you know that it is there because the sounds and pictures are evidence that this flow of energy exists.  In the same way, EFT gives striking evidence that energy flows within our bodies because it provides the effects that let you know it.  By tapping near the end points of your energy meridians, you can experience profound emotional changes that would not occur if there were no energy system.   And this understanding is the surprising premise on which EFT is based:  that the cause of all negative emotions is due to a blockage or disruption of the body’s energy system – in other words, a disturbing or negative thought literally creates a disruption in the body’s normal or healthy flow of Chi.


WHAT IS ENERGY THERAPY?

When I tell clients or colleagues that I am now working with Energy Therapy, most give me an odd look and quickly change the subject. Those who are curious and brave enough ask  me, "What in the world is Energy Therapy?"'

As stated earlier, Energy Therapy refers to a new class of techniques used as a therapeutic treatment modality for a variety of emotional and physiological ailments. Energy Therapy techniques, (also referred to as Energy Medicine), produce change by gaining access to the energy system of the body through the complex network of meridians or channels that move our life force or qi through our bodies. The Discovery Statement of Energy Therapy informs us as follows: "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. " The theory states that once there is a build‑up of emotional or physiological distress, the natural flow along one of these channels is disrupted and must be cleared, cleaned out, strengthened, or aligned, in order for healing to occur.

This system of meridians, accessed in Energy Therapy, was mapped out by the Chinese over four thousand years ago and is the basis of all acupuncture treatment. Imbalances in our energy system can be cleared up and healed by stimulating points along these pathways, unblocking congestion ' and regulating the energy flow. Whether the impairment of the functioning of these meridians is caused by emotional or physiological stress, these circuits of energy must be realigned and returned to their natural balance for a person to experience healing.

Pioneers in the Energy Medicine field consider Energy Therapy to be a form of "psychological acupuncture." While acupuncturists use needles to facilitate movement of the life force through the body, energy therapists use the fingers to tap or simply hold the endpoints of these meridians.. The tapping movements stimulate the designated meridians. This stimulation, combined with a particular mental and emotional focusing, restores balance to the energy system, neutralizes the emotional distress, and frees the body and mind to resume their potent, natural healing functions.


HOW TO DO EFT?  

1.                 Choose specific problem (i.e., “back pain” or “anxiety”)

2.                 Determine rate of severance (1-10)

3.                 Do Set-Up: While tapping karate chop spot on either hand, repeat affirmation 3 times: “Even though I have this “anxiety”, I deeply and completely accept/love myself.”

4.                 Tap following spots while repeating the reminder phrase, “this anxiety”.  Be an observer of yourself as you are tapping and be aware of thoughts or feelings.  You may want to tap on them during this process.

5.                 Take a deep breath

6.                 Assess severance

7.                 If above 1, repeat set-up while tapping karate chop spot repeating the following affirmation:  Even though I Still have some of this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

8.                 Tap all of the spots again, saying reminder phrase “remaining anxiety.”

9.                 Deep breathe & assess severance.

10.            Repeat if necessary.

11.            End each tapping session with one round of tapping and say on each spot a version of this:  “Even though I feel this           I now choose                      “ (i.e., peace, well being).

12.            Journal as it feels good!
